Giannino in San Lorenzo

Right next to Il Nutino and Trattoria di San Lorenzo, on the busy Borgo San Lorenzo street lies Giannino in San Lorenzo. Just like theses two other restaurants, it is a large establishment. We found this restaurant while we were walking around the San Lorenzo area looking for a new, good place to try on a Sunday night. We walked up to Giannino in San Lorenzo and saw it had a 4.3 star 1k review combo, so we figured we’d give it a shot.

We kept it simple here, as everyone stuck to primi piatti. I tried two new dishes that were delicious and that I had not had in Florence to date.

The first primi I got was la ribollita alla fiorentina nella sua ricetta tradizionale. Ribollita is a traditional Florentine soup that consists of bread and vegetables. It was very good, but was heavy. If you are not a huge eater I don’t recommend this if you want to get another dish. However, if you want to try a Florentine staple and can eat a lot, this is a good option.

The main attraction of this meal was the Ravioli “maremmani” di ricotta e spinaci in crema di tartufo nero. This was a spinach and ricotta ravioli under a black truffle cream sauce. I really enjoyed this. I had never had a flavor combination like this. I had eaten spinach and ricotta pasta with butter and sage before, but never a black truffle sauce so I was excited. First off, the ravioli was terrific. The ricotta and spinach filling wasn’t too overpowering, and it was light and tasty. I just think spinach and ricotta was a good combination. Secondly, the black truffle cream sauce on top was awesome. It was very savory, and the cream sauce wasn’t too heavy. The savory flavor of the truffle sauce and the earthy flavor of the ricotta spinach paired well together.

Takeaways: Giannino in San Lorenzo is a really solid restaurant, and you will get a good meal here. I tried two new things and enjoyed both of them. The spinach ricotta ravioli was the winner here, and I would recommend it to anyone who eats here.
