Vini E Vecchi Sapori is a gem in Florence. It was one of my favorite restaurants in the city. The owners are so friendly and engaging, the vibe of the place is fantastic, and most importantly the food is a homerun. These are some of the reasons that kept bringing me back to Vine E Vecchi. It is a really intimate restaurant, so be sure to call in advance to make a reservation, you won’t regret it. I can keep raving about this place, but I’m sure you want to hear about the food, so let me get to it . . .
When you walk in, you’ll notice the guy at the bar cutting meats. That is what you should start with. The meat plate has an assortment of typical Florentine meats including regional salamis, prosciutto, and other delicious meats. You may as well get some of the house red to pair with the meat plate (it’s Italy, why not?)
For primi, you cannot miss the Duck tagliatelle. The tagliatelle is light, fresh, and soft. The pasta itself is the real deal. This is the type of pasta that you don’t forget about. It is the perfect pasta to pair with the duck ragu. The meat is tender, and the ragu is so flavorful. Every bite of this dish gets better and better. I could eat this every night if you put it in front of me.
You’ll be real happy after that duck tagliatelle, but for the main course make some room for the ossobuco with peas. I had never had ossobuco before, it is safe to say that I am now a big fan. Just like the duck ragù, the meat was tender, and fell apart on my fork. The dark sauce on it just added to the flavor of the meat. The best part of the whole dish is the bone marrow in the middle of the bone which is just packed with flavor.
Takeaways: This was one of my favorite restaurants from my time in Europe. Even though this is in a touristy part of Florence, you cannot miss this spot. The menu is handwritten and updated regularly. The food is authentic, and the food is made with care. The duck tagliatelle is out of this world, and it is the star of the show. Fantastic restaurant, and the owners are extremely friendly and love interacting with the customers.
