Canto de Macci

Canto de Macci is a quaint little restaurant away from some of the more touristy parts of the city. We had heard about this because some college friends lived above this restaurant and would go here often. It became their favorite restaurant in the city. One night we ate here as a group, and the dinner was terrific. We came in with a big appetite and left as a fully satisfied.

To start off, we got the house red and white wines. They were both very tasty, and reasonably priced. We ordered a pizza to share for the table. To this point, the pizza I had in Florence was not great. It never came cut, and the fresh mozzarella would always slip off the pie after I cut a piece to eat it. The bottom line is that it is that the pizza here is a mess to eat. New Haven and New York pizza are a lot better, but that’s for another time. However, the Margherita pizza here was decent. It paired well with the wine and gave us a little extra food to eat before our next portion of the meal arrived.

Next, we all got pastas. I am a big fan of carbonara, so that caught my eye on the menu. I went with the pici alla carbonara on the pasta Fresca part of the menu*. This carbonara was very good. There were thick pieces of pancetta, and the sauce was delicious. I threw some Parmesan on it, even though it didn’t need it. I enjoyed it so much, I came back a month later to have it again.

After dinner, we got limoncello shots. The staff here was super nice and gave us a few more shots of limoncello on the house.

Takeaway: This is a great place to come with friends. You will be able to have a nice conversation without it being too noisy. You will also be treated to an excellent meal. The staff was very friendly, and they make you want to come back again.

Score: 8.5/10

*side note, some restaurants have a pasta Fresca section (fresh made pasta) and another section with pastas that aren’t homemade. Just be aware when you are ordering, however both sections most likely will have good pastas.
